Stupid Question: Remote Register for Shows

I'm having a lovely time trying to update the system at work to POS. The conversion has been put off time after time due to the store being busy. As it's a small retail shop, not a surprise, but it does make it difficult to accomplish much.

Latest question to come up: We have a single regular register in the store. We also have a laptop that the boss takes to shows to sell with. For shows, it's possible that the boss will be away from the home store for over two weeks. Are we going to have trouble (ie revert to eval mode) when the laptop is away from the dongle for that long?

And yeah, I did RTFM, but my brain is slowly turning to mush. I'm hoping some kind soul here can explain it to me in small words.

Because you asked about the dongle, I'm going to assume you are working with MS Retail Management System, not MS Point of Sale.

How do you intend to operate the laptop as a remote register?

How many registers are you licensed for? You can see this by using Help/About in SO Manager or just About in POS.

RMS, right. Sorry.

Copy of the database, no customer data, just sales. We do a bunch of shows out of the store, so this is a killer if I can't figure out how it's supposed to work.

Three.

Hello Laura,

Setup the laptop as additional register and use the Offline function for it.

When you come back from the show, it will sync back up with the main databse and add all of the sales made on the machine.

Contact your reseller on now to set it up.

How long will a register run offline? We have trips that last three weeks. If the offline has limitations, we could have some trouble. I've read the manual multiple times, and it seems like the offline function is for temporary offline only, not for extended periods.

Or am I misreading?

Laura,

I know its good for 2 weeks as I've had some customers run that long. I'm not in front of a test machine so I can't test, although neither article below mentions any time limitations.

Here's a KB on the Terminal Offline mode operational limitations;

Thank you. This pretty much answers my fears. 99% of the shows will be less than 2 weeks, and I can run a few tests once we're up to make sure the other 1% isn't a problem.

Thanks again. You've given me a good bit of work to chew on, but taken care of my issue.
