Various Runtime errors during debit/credit tranactions

I work for Techneto and we consult for the Girl Scouts of Westchester/Putnam. The issue we're having is that every so often when a clerk attempts to process a debit/credit transaction the terminal will freeze up and give a runtime error. When RMS is restarted the records will not reflect the transaction even though the customer is still credited for that amount. I have two error numbers here with me, which are '2147217865' and '214767259(80004005).' I watched as it happened today and it was accompanied with a message. We took a screen shot and I'll be happy to supply that if it's necessary, but I wanted to know who I should contact to help fix this problem. This only happens on the one register that is connected to the 2nd one. The 2nd register houses the actual database and has never had any problems. Any suggestions on where to begin would be helpful.

If you are the RMS reseller, you can contact MS Tech support through Partner Source. If not, you could contact the reseller who set the system up.

The error numbers you entered are fairly generic ADO errors - they are usually accompanied by some text that describes them a little more. If you could post the descriptions or at least the first bit, it may provide some debugging info, but it probably says something like "Database connection lost ... Insert into... blah blah blah..."

If this is only happening when the PINPad is being used, it may be a power issue - the device sometimes draws more power thatn the computer's power supply has available and ends up taking the NIC down (it's a brown out). You might also want to try using a Status.HTM file that does not do anything - there's been some conjecture that if the Status.htm tries to refresh its information during the connection attempt, it can interfere. That one has always seemed unlikely to me, but not to hard to try it out...

What RMS version are you running (Help/About)?

I think you have multiple issues that just happen to include the debit/credit transaction. It sounds like you really have intermittent network issues that are not tied to any specific RMS function.

1) Is this by any chance a wireless network?

2) What RMS Version (Help/About)?

3) How is your network laid out in relation to RMS? Dedicated SQL Server? Register serving as DB Server? What version of SQL Server?

Glenn Adams Tiber Creek C> AWilliams, we implemented RMS in March 06 and have fought the same error

1000/1000SE attached to the COM port of the machine.

USB adaptor cable from StarTech part # ICUSB232. There are others on the market, but don't know if they work.

port settings and match the settings (baud rate, stop bits, parity, etc) of the pinpad. Make sure you change the pinpad to the new COM port too.
