Would like to use scanner for physical inventory

So far we have managed to do our physical inventory manually, which is rather cumbersome. I would like to use a scanner to scan in the items, enter the quantity counts, then total all quantities per item and import into RMS SO (using V2, SP2).

I am looking for some suggestions for a good scanner and some instructructions for the RMS update.

Thanks in advance.

Gerd,

Are you looking for a wireless, Batch, or wired scanner?

Just a point of Fact we have been using a PSC PT2000 Top Gun with good success. However It is no longer available. I've been testing the Metrologic Optimus R and it seems to fit our needs as a replacement. It is also not going to break the bank.

Also the Metrologic scanpal 2 seemed as if it would also work.

We do use wired batch terminals. Wireless is also available

We also use the Metrologic Optimus as a data collector. We use it for receiving and collecting sku's for label printing too. It works good for the price.

We use the Worth Data Tricoder too, more than twice the price but rugged (w/ rubber case) and louder beep tone. Just replaced one after 14 years! We find the low volume beep tone on the Optimus to be a problem, especially in a noisy environment, . it is hard to always hear the beep, so we have issues with double scans or missed scans. if they would put a louder/better speaker on the Optimus it would be awesome for the price.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Very helpful.

But one question remains. Now you have all the inventory in the scanner, how do you "consolidate" it and then import it into RMS? That was always a manual step for me. Do you then use that "not supported" import tool that existed from Quick Sell times. It sure always (and still does) bothered me that MS could not even provide a supported import tool. That should be part of any base package.

Probably a wired scanner. I am not familiar with a batch scanner but saw that mentioned at other places.
