Can I access the same QB file from 2 different locations?

We have a small distributing business. We would like to create customer invoices in the warehouse, and then receive payments in the home office. We don't need to access the database at the same time, just one at a time from either location.

We just bought QB Pro 2009 (for $99), and we're looking for the least expensive way to do this.

I would have one location use remote access to log into the other location using something like LogMeIn or GoToMyPC. LogMeIn has a freebie version if you don't need printing or file transfers.

Sure--just network the two machines peer-to-peer and put the database file in a shared folder w/ permissions granted.

For that, you need to put the file onto a third computer and each use LogMeIn or GoToMyPC to get to the QB file. I'm assuming the computers aren't on the same LAN or you can just set up file sharing between them.

Then you buy a copy of Windows Server and a computer to run it on for a ton of money and can set up QB Enterprise another ton on money in Terminal Services mode with VPN through Windows Server. (It is the official supported way.) The free way is what you rejected have one user log onto the others computer. Next least expensive is buy a third computer and use LogMeIn or GoToMyPC locally and/or remotely to get to your existing QB on that third computer. Just make sure you can print where you want to print.

Keep your eyes pealed. Intuit might be going to release a real UNIX(r)/Mac version in a year or two and when they do multi-user via internet will be trivia to implement. If 7 bombs as bad as Vista, indications are it may, this will get front burner treatment.

The third computer idea might be the best solution given the restrictions currently in place. Simple networking is out because they are not on the same network.

As for printing locally while using LMI--you need the pay version to accomplish this. There is also a program called Printeranywhere. I have used it in the past.

For times where I am logged into a client's server and want to print a document, I just print to PDF and save the document to my hard drive. I switch back to my computer and print the pdf file.

Well, I _was_ assuming (I know, bad idea :) ) the two machines were in proximity close enough to be networked, just weren't. If that isn't the case, then as others have noted, your choices are less simple.
