data file size

HI, everyone,

My main data file for QBW is over 40 MB. Do I need to worry that this is too big? Is there a file compression function I need to use?

thanks

You'll need to worry if you're not properly backing up the file on a regular basis. Support has always told me that depending on the version, you'll start to run into problems when you start to get closer to 75MB. If you've noticed that your file is responding slowly, it may be time to run the Clean Up Company Data function if you have

2006 or later, or Archive/Condense if you have 2005 or earlier.

Always make sure you run the back up at least once a week. Here is a quick Jing video that shows how to do that:

I also recommend that everyone test the backup file at least once a month (restore the file - save it to your desktop and name it something like: "BackupTestDONOTUSE.QBW", that way it will not be overriding your working company file and it is easy to find after the fact for quick deletion) to make sure that the backup procedure is working properly.

One last note: whenever running the backup function, always choose "Complete Verification". This should find any small errors in the file and give you the opportunity to rebuild before they become large errors and major data corruption which will eventually cause the file to not work at all.

Good luck!
