Copying data files

hi all,

i'd like to copy data files from one computer to another in their native format (.QBW, instead of having to backup and restore). i've noticed that there are files that end in ".lmr" and ".cfp".

what are these files and what do they do? do i need to also copy these files over?

thanks in advance

Loading thread data ...

1.) You only need to copy QBW .

2.) Google is your friend: file extension lmr tells you that LMR is Loan Manager Data;

file extension cfp tells you that CFP is The Complete Fax Portable fax file.

What about the new files extensions used by QB2006: filename.qbw.ND (network data file) and filename.qbw.TLG (Transaction Log File). Do these need to be copied too?

Have to let someone with 2006 answer that.

Although I cannot see why a log file is needed the network data file might be required for multi users. These are just guesses.

Without being able to answer authoritatively, I suspect you need only the native format file. But here's some easy ways to find out.

Option 1. Copy the QBW file only. Does the sucker work correctly on the new machine?

Option 2. Rename the ".LMR" and ".CFP" files on the existing machine. Does the program still work or does it bitch about missing files?

When you've been fooling with computers for forty years, you pick up little tricks like these and, if you haven't yet burned out, you're eager to share them with newcomers.

Just for the 'ell of it, after you are satisfied with the outcome let us know what you actually did.

i copied just the .QBW files over, and don't seem to be having any issues. but i've only done the basic tasks like checkwriting. i've yet to do any loan managing, etc.

Hello, top poster.

Yes, you can change the "archive" bit. Do you have a clue as to its meaning?

Reply to
HeyBub

does it mean that Google archives it, so that the topic and thread will be searchable in the future?

Oops. Sorry. I thought you were referring to the archive bit on a file. If you mean something having to do with Google Groups, I have no idea.

Very few competent newsgroup posters use Google - we use, instead, a newsgroup reader such as Outlook. Posting via a web service (and Google is one) is contraindicated for many reasons, the most prominent of which is the delay in propagating messages.

Don't bother. The season just started and the Boston Bruins are done for the year.
