Getting info out of QB6

Nov 16, 2006 5 Replies

Hiya all,

I work for a charity that still uses QB6, its fine for the small amount of stuff we do. We only use it about once a week. However, it would be nice to display some of the figures on a screen without opening QB - like total sales , costs etc. Our IT 'wizzard' Marge says that she can't get the information out of the qb file directly, its in a funny format.

Anyone know any utilities that can do this?

Hi,

No , this is Quickbooks 6, from around 1998? Very old but does what we need so we've never seen the point (or had the funds) to update.

Thank you for your suggestion, but what we want to do is leave QB's closed and use a web type application to grab the latest figures from the quickbook file and display them round the shop on screens. "So far we have raised £xx, and spend £yy sort of thing". We have the software to display the info easily, it just seems a bind to have to open QB and export the info regularly, when some utility must be capable of reading the file. We've tried using 'grep' in linx, but the data in the file is in binary so returns no usefull results.

The people from Binard have the utilities that can do this.

No problem. Every time you are about to exit QB, run the report. Thereafter, anyone can look at the latest data from the QB file.
