MAc and PDF

Whenever I generate a PDF, no one on a Mac can read it. Is there a fix or work-around?

What are you using to create a pdf? I suspect its either a program issue on your end or an email client issue. PDF is standard and Macs come with their own PDF maker built into the operating system because pdfs are so widely used.

When you say no one on a Mac can read it, how many actual Mac computers have you tried this on? And the PDF that you generate, you have verified that other PC users can read them properly?

One thing comes to mind real quick. Your settings on your e-mail program. Is the MIME type for the .pfd set correctly? Mac's being standard, actually look at the MIME type, not the .pfd in the file name, to type the file. If the file isn't of the correct type the Mac won't open it.

Of course if you aren't using Adobe to create the .pdf, all bets are off. There is no telling that the software is making a correct universal .pdf file.

Your problem may be caused by a bug that has long existed in the part of the QB program dealing with pdf file creation, which quite often results in problems with opening/reading pdf files, especially after they have been e-mailed.

Try creating your own pdf file using one of the free pdf programs one can download from the internet. I find pdf995 works best with QB but the advertising will make you mad enough that you pay the $10 to get rid of it. Cutewriter works quite well too.

After you have installed the program and you click Print for any document you have created in QB, one of the available printers will be the pdf995 virtual printer and it will create a decent pdf file which everyone can open.

This workaround is a nuisance but until Intuiit gets off its butt and finds the bug there will be problems. It is also a useful means of creating files of QB documents that QB does not allow you to e-mail. These files can then be e-mailed.
