QuickBooks has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

This started after a lockup that needed to a hard reset to get out of it. After that Quickbooks would not open. I uninstalled and reinstalled it three times now and the same thing happens. I even used an uninstaller to get rid of all leftovers. I used the CTRL key to open without a company file and the same thing happens. I tried with and without the update to R8. This is the Accountant 2011 edition and I am out of technical support for it. Any ideas on troubleshooting it?

I can't help you specifically with QB but in general computer terms I would boot to safe mode (hit F8 after the initial post screen and choose safe mode) then uninstall/clean with uninstaller/ reboot to safe mode again in reinstall. You also might want to check the drive for errors before you reinstall...

I can't say for sure any of that will help, but removing programs while in safe mode usually insures a cleaner uninstall if there are problems.

Ok, got it running by installing to a custom directory My Programs instead of the normal Program Files (x86), but still get that same error when opening one of my files. I copied the file to a jump drive to run on another computer I installed QB on temporarily and it runs there from the jump drive. I copied the files over my original files and it will not open. I can, however, open the same files on the jump drive. Any further ideas?

Did you try restoring Windows to a point before this incident occurred?

Are you getting an error message when you try opening the file on your computer?

Are you able to open a sample company file on that computer? Try that first. If you can't open a sample company file then their might be a problem with the installation.

Also, make sure that when you copy the file to your hard drive that it is not read only.
