Tax line allocation doesn't show on chart of accts

Hi, I'm a new user of QB2005, Premier (Canadian) - Accountant edition.

I've imported company files from Simply Accounting (did not have GIFI codes set up there, since I was doing that in a nifty Excel worksheet). Accounts came in, and from the Chart of Accounts list I am now going through and editing names, etc. and adding the tax line linking.

I would have expected that as I add the link, I would see it in the "Tax" column of COA, but the column is completely empty. The tax link does show on "Income Tax Preparation" report, but I can't edit the account from there. Can anyone explain what the Tax column on the COA is supposed to be for??

Also, is there an easier way to go through and edit each account so that you don't have to back out to COA after every change?. (A feature like Simply's where you can scroll through each account on the Edit screen would be wonderful!)

Thanks, vcard

"Tax" in the COA is the QB tax code (if any) that you have made the default for that account, not the GIFI tax code. For example you might indicate that Office Supplies are generally subject to PST and GST (code S), but Accounting Fees are subject only to GST (code G). This applies only to expense accounts.

edition.
