2 Questions Regarding Quicken XG2005 Canadian

Hi all,

Question 1. I am a longtime MS money user (Since 97), however am looking at converting to Quicken as opposed to going to MSmoney 2005. The only thing is i would like to trial Quicken XG 2005 first before i plunk down 3X more than what MSmoney would cost me. MSMoney allows trial runs, doesn't Quicken?

Note that i would be looking for the Canadian version...

Question 2. What are my options for importing my MSMoney2004 data into Quicken2005XG? Is it doable?

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Hi - Money is advertised at $44.95 and Quicken XG at $99.95. That is only twice the cost. However, you would need to do a feature by feature comparison of all features to really make a fair cost/value comparison.

You cannot import a Money file into Quicken, but you can convert from Money to Quicken by following a series of steps described at:

few years ago, I converted from Quicken to Money and found going that way was quite straight forward. I did not like the way, so many functions in Money were linked to your MS Passport Account, and also, there was only minimal customization for the Canadian market, so I switched back again after about a week.

The Canadian version of Quicken on the other hand is highly customized and adapted to Canada, has different release schedules and is supported separately from the US version, even though it is apparent that they are both the same product in most respects.

I can only speak to the US version, but in the US Quicken allows you a

60-day no-questions asked, money-back guarantee. That seems to me to be the same as a trail period, wouldn't you agree?

Again for the US, on the Quicken website is a conversion tool. You might want to look into it.

I suggest to remain with Money.

Ive recently purchased XG and have had nothing but problems.

There is absolutely no support whatsoever unless you fell on dishing out more cash. Also, the "financial software" they like to quote is a joke. They cannot even obtain historical prices for your portfolio.

Stay far away from this product.

Hi Jim,

I have seen MSMoney listed at 32.95, hence the 3X difference however this is just symantics.

The main reason is i just want change. Also the fact that Quicken XG has seperate business support from the versions of MSM that i have used, ties in better with Quicktax (Which i use), Seems to have a better process for downloading transactions than MSM.

As well, I am on a non-Microsoft kick right now, hence the removal of MS Money.

Regards,

Quicken2005XG?

Pray tell what support you get from Microsoft for Money? And is it free?

If I'm not mistaken, you do frequent the Quicken Support Forums at

so you might have seen an acknowledgement from the Forum moderator that there was a problem and a recent announcement that Intuit now believe they have finally found and fixed the problem with data exchang between them and the quotes supplier.

Your advice is laughably biased.

Mike, tell me what kind of Investor are you?

Historical information is fairly important for a portfolio. Why does XG not have historical prices for CDN stocks?

The feedback I get in this forum suggests that it is US based only.
