Combining accounts

One other question, and it's not a new question. It's been asked and answered many times. Unfortunately, none of the answers I've come across can be used.

I use Quicken Deluxe 2009. I have created two separate accounts during a manic attack. One account is called VanguardRothIRA, the other is VangRothIRA. They have different investments in them, but both together constitute my Vanguard Roth IRA.

They are both investment accounts with reinvested dividends and mutual funds being transferred into the account (IRA to Roth conversion) and out of the account (recharacterization). The accounts belong together as a single account, but any efforts at using "Move transaction" have failed.

Any ideas?

One possible solution is - Since they are IRA accounts and you do not care about the basis of the stocks you can remove the stock from one account and add it to the other account. In the description field you can say what you are doing.

There is no "move transaction" for investment accounts; but you can use Cut/Paste ... one transaction at a time.

As suggested in the other response, you can use Remove Shares/Add Shares, but if you go that route, you might as well use the "Shares transferred between accounts" transaction which will also Remove Shares from one account and Add Shares to the other ... but it will retain the lot info.

And if you'd like all the transactions "moved" and don't have the patience to do them one-by-one, you can export to a QIF file, make a few minor adjustments to the QIF file, then import the QIF file into the other Quicken account.
