random additions to portfolio page

The latest frustration with Quicken is that it has started to randomly insert past investments into my current Portfolio page. I have about 10 securities in 4 different accounts which are not current and which have been gratuitously inserted in the past week. These securities date all the way back to 1997 and all were properly sold and zeroed out. They show up with either zero's in all number columns or sometimes with a balance in the "Cost Basis" column. I have not been able to delete or hide any of the offending investments. "Hide" command only adds to the frustration, it has no effect on the investment. I have even completely deleted all traces of an investment from the transactions page and it still occupies its offensive position on my Portfolio page. Validate does not provide any help and does not indicate any problem. All transactions in the transaction page are in order (at least they balance and agree with my Fidelity statement. I have tried reinstalling the program, no joy. Suggestions are welcome. Speaking of suggestions - like many others I have Googled for a substitute program. One reviewer rated Money-dance rather high. Has anyone an experience to share?
