Security Not Showing in Portfolio

I'm using Quicken 2013 Deluxe. I just made a purchase of a mutual fund, and it shows on the Holdings screen of the account where I bought it. However it does not show on the Portfolio screen.

So I went to help, and searched on Portfolio. On the "Customize the Portfolio" screen it says the following:

"If one of your securities isn't showing in the Portfolio:

The missing security may be part of an account that you did not choose to include in your Portfolio. Check your settings in the Customize Portfolio dialog.

You may have chosen to hide that particular security. Check the Show (hidden securities) setting in the Customize Portfolio dialog.

You may be trying to display a security for which you have only closed lots. If you want to include lots you've already closed, click Options and then choose Show closed lots."

Neither of the first two things they mention is the case, but the third may be related to the issue. Under a different account (now included as a "Separate" account), I used to own shares of this mutual fund, but they were all sold long ago.

I tried what they suggested, and chose "Show closed lots" both in the new account and in the old account, but neither helped. Moreover, I don't really want to show closed lots. It would clutter everything up.

Can anyone help? What's wrong and how can I correct it?

The most common reason for a security not appearing in a Portfolio View ("Show" dropdown), is that it is not selected for that View (each of the 18 Views is independently customizable).

Just purchasing a new security will not automatically cause it to appear in any Portfolio View - to do so would contradict some user's preferences.

So when you acquire a new security, and you want to see it in a particular Portfolio View: Customize the view, click the Securities tab, and select the security.

Thanks, but that didn't work. I tried something else. I deleted all transactions for the account, in the old account as well as the new account. I then deleted the security from the security list.

Then I reentered the new transaction in the new account. All is well now; it appears in the Portfolio view.

The same thing just happened with another security. This time, the reason *was* what you suggested, so I thank you again.
