correcting memorized transactions

I started using Q2007 Home & Business after a couple of years using Money, and I've run into a problem with memorized split transactions for 2 or 3 stores where multiple purchases on the same receipt belong in different categories. So neither the constant amount or the percentage method applies. How can I get Quicken to stop splitting and entering categories?

BTW, I do like this version of Quicken - much better than Money or earlier versions.

I'm not clear about your problem. I don't recall any true Quicken problems with memorized transactions with split categories.

If neither the constant amount or the percentage method apply: you have no reason to expect a memorized transaction to produce results that do not require human intervention.

If you don't want Quicken to use a Memorized Payee (transaction): don't memorize a transaction for that payee.

And take care not to allow Quicken to automatically memorize transactions:

Edit > Preferences > Quicken Program > QuickFill

Uncheck the box to "Automatically memorize new payees".

As I said: if you do not want Quicken to use a memorized payee transaction for a new transaction (downloaded or manually entered), do not have a memorized transaction for that payee. If the memorized transaction is not working for you: get rid of it.

If you memorize a transaction with split percentages: you'll get the same percentages for every new transaction for that payee.

If you memorize a transaction with specific amounts: you'll get the same amounts for every new transaction for that payee.

Having Quicken automatically memorize transactions can interfere with your desires. I suggest you control your Memorized Payees (transactions) manually.

I just edit the amounts. May paycheck varies, sometimes by just a penny, but editing is easier than re-entering.

Same here.

But my paycheck is a scheduled transaction, not a memorized transaction.

Walmart is a good example of a transaction that it makes no sense for me to memorize (or schedule). The total amount differs significantly from week to week, and the categories in the split are almost never the same ... in name or number.

Sorry to mix up scheduled and memorized. I guess a scheduled Tx has to memorized before it can be scheduled.

Just wish I could easily distinguish my CVS pharmacy from my CVS household expense purchases, and make each a memorized transaction ... I'm sure there is a way but ...
