Displayed Balance

This is just the way Quicken is designed. The Balance isn't part of the transaction - it's just a running total of payments minus expenses (1) for the transactions you choose to show and (2) in the order in which you choose to sort them. The final balance depends only on (1) but the balance shown next to each item depends on both (1) and (2).

Rather than hiding the reconciled transactions, try ordering your registers by cleared status. Select "Account Actions" (just above the Balance column) then "Sorting Options" then "by Cleared Status". This will list all unreconciled items at the end of your register.

Well that's the way I have it set up now, but I was hoping that there was a way I could get it to do like MS Money and hide the reconciled transactions and still show the correct balance of my account. Oh well I guess I'll just have to get used to it the way it is now.

The Account Bar on the left of your screen shows the correct current or ending balance of all accounts. It's pretty easy to expand and recollapse it if you normally keep it hidden.

I personally prefer the way Quicken does this, but you might suggest to Intuit that they add an option to do it your way. They're usually quite receptive to ideas that might add value to their product.

Neat! So if you set up the Account Bar to show current balances then the filtered ending balance and the unfiltered ending, online, and current balances are all visible. If they added the unfiltered current balance below the register it would be perfecto.

The unfiltered current balance will appear, if it is different than the unfiltered ending balance.

Looks like this is true for checking and savings accounts, but not for Credit Card accounts which show Credit Remaining instead.

I think you want to know your unfiltered current CC balance if you pre-enter future charges and pay the current balance, rather than the statement balance, when you make payments.

Without spending a lot of time thinking about your desire; I can say that credit card accounts have not displayed a "current" balance (below the register, as we have been discussing) since at least Q2002.

I also can't recall anyone else wanting this ... though I certainly wouldn't reject it, if Intuit wanted to provide it.

I've never considered this a defect ... but maybe I don't look at my credit card accounts as you do.

But Quicken has - at least since Q2002 - displayed a "current" balance in checking and savings accounts; when the current balance differs from the ending balance. So it would at least be consistent for Quicken to provide filtered and unfilterd current and ending balances in checking and savings accounts ... while not changing their practice of not displaying a "current" balance below credit card accounts..

Providing a "current" balance in credit card accounts would be a divergence from a long time practice. My guess is that those desiring this would need to prove their claim to Intuit - not only for its value to the user personally; but that the user's desire represents the desire of a significant percentage of Quicken users.

I really don't need or want this feature. I was just trying to consider everything that the original poster *might* want. And I'm not sure even he considers this item useful. The Q11 enhancements might completely satisfy him [except that he's using Q10!]. Or he might still be dissatisfied that the intermediate balances don't reflect the hidden transactions - he hasn't stated his position since your post about Q11.

I personally don't need this feature, or even any of the *nice* Q11 changes, because the Sort by Cleared Status practically eliminates my need for filtering. When I do use filtering I turn it back off when I'm done looking at the filtered results. In fact, the only thing on that line I ever look at is Online Balance.

While I don't accept that "It's always been that way" is an excuse for resisting change, I do agree that Credit Remaining is more important than Current Balance for CC accounts and that there isn't space on the line for both.
