Works pretty well!
****************************************************** CharliecIs there a way to export the date in the check register to a spreadsheet file -- tab- or comma-delimited or Excel?

Nothing like that in 2005 Deluxe? There doesn't seem to be a way to get the balance into a report.

Of course there is. Every Quicken "report" can be "exported" to Excel.
In Q2005 there are generally three ways: click "Export Data" in the report menu, then either "To Excel compatible format", or "Copy to Clipboard" (then paste in Excel); or click "Print", then click "Export to tab-delimited (Excel-compatible) Disk File".
I should have added that the original suggestion also works in Q2005. If you didn't see it, you didn't do *exactly* what was suggested.
Open the account to the Register tab. Click File > Print Register > Print.
The 2007 Premier version has:
In the Register view - click report, register report, right click, for a drop down to choose Excel compatible format.

I do not want a printed register. I would like a file that I could eventually import into Excel.
Thanks.

I see that, I see that. But that report does not contain the balance after each transaction.
Thanks.

I'm not making myself clear, I guess.
I have not found a way to create a report that shows the balance after each transaction that appears in my check register.
Once I have the report I want, I will take your advice about exporting to Excel.
But first, I have to get the report I want.
Thanks.

So just insert a formula in the spreadsheet that gives you the balance after each transaction. Pretty basic stuff.

From the register: Ctrl-P Set dates, fill in boxes, click print then choose excel format. Call the file test.prn. Make sure the file does not get .txt added as an additional suffix. If necessary, rename.
Double-click the file name in explorer and make sure it is opened with Excel.
Works with Q2006, and does give running balances.

Ah, but you're the one who is not paying attention! I understand that every report can be exported to Excel.
The problem now is that I cannot customize a report to get what I want!
What I want is a report that includes a column that shows the check register balance for reach transaction.
There does not seem to be a way to include that column in a report.
Do you know of such a way?
Thanks.

Thanks.

Aha!!! Thanks.
You're not paying attention; from one of my previous posts: "Every Quicken 'report' can be 'exported' to Excel.
You're right. I took "print" literally and never thought it could also mean "export formatted data to a file". Silly me! :-)
Thanks.
Which, except for the Ctrl-P part (a shortcut which produces the same "Register" report I mentioned earlier), is *exactly* what I told you to do ... to which you replied that you did not want to "print" a report. Notice the word "print" in the instructions that you are replying to here? Now, you do not find any problem "print"ing a report ... before, same basic instructions ... it was a problem.
I do, and I told you. You did not follow the directions I gave you; you decided the answer was wrong without trying it.
