Find & Replace function

I can't find the transaction FIND and REPLACE dialog in Q2010. Q Help didn't. Can someone verify that it is still there and works.? TIA

?Hi, Stubby.

I've been using Q2011 Deluxe for just a month or two and already have forgotten Q2010. But in Q2011, I can just click Edit | Find/Replace.

Under the top menu "edit" drill down to f&r

Thanks, but the pull-down menu under Edit>Find&Replace has all entries except Find grayed out. I believe this has to do with the fact that I am asking for F&R in a subaccount. There are several things broken having to do with sub accounts in Q2010. Maybe somebody with Q2011 can experiment a bit for me. TIA.

What's a "subaccount"? How do you (or would you) tell Quicken you want to find/replace in a "subaccount"?

Find/replace isn't available in Quicken investment accounts ... but that's not new. It's the same in Q2011, Q2010 and Q2008 (and probably earlier versions as well).

The lastest update to Quicken 2011 (R4) expands the find/replace function to include investment accounts.

On Q2011, there is a magnifying glass icon on the top of each account header next to the "Account Actions" button. I believe I was able to use control+F in 2010 to bring this up in 2010 but I am working from memory.

Interesting.

I probably should have made my previous reply more specific. I was trying to answer the question about Find/Replace being greyed out, and I had an investment account open in Q2011 R4 when I posted ... and Find/Replace is still greyed out when investment accounts are open in Q2011 R4.

But, as far as I know (I just checked in Q2008 too), Find/Replace has always been able to "find" - at least some - investment account transactions, even though you couldn't initiate it from the Edit menu with an investment account open.

But after finding investment account transactions, the "replace" doesn't work as expected. I am unable to replace the contents of "Check Num" or "Cleared Status" for investment accounts, for example; even though the find/replace dialog allows me to enter everything necessary to cause that to happen - after clicking "Replace" no change is made.

I don't see any difference in Q2011 R4 than I recall seeing in R3, and that I see in Q2008. I also looked in the R4 release notes, but didn't see anything about adding Find/Replace capability for investment accounts, though I may have missed it. What caused you to believe that R4 has changed the Find/Replace capability for investment accounts?

My experience is the same for investment accounts in Q2011 R4 . After entering everything and clicking "Replace", there is no change.

I was able to replace the memo field in investment accounts.

That works!! Thanks for the tip.
