How to reconcile transfer to investment account

I just opened two investment accounts. Downloaded quiken data from the their website and it showed up correctly in the quiken. I used my checking account to open the investment accounts. I did this online so no checks issued. The transaction appeared in my checking account when i downloaded statement. The payee was blank. So i selected Transfer to my new investment account. This created another entry in my investment account. My balances now show up fine after several attempts of editing/deleting the entries both in investment and checking. But my "TRANSFERS" section in my monthly income/expense shows this amount in negative. Not sure what made this to appear.

I am fine recreating the investment account from scratch. But not sure what are the steps involved so that the entries are correctly reconciled. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks RT

either of the following should work.

A. Show a transfer of the opening cash from the checking account to the investment account. Show a Buy for the amount transferred and the number of units purchased. Resulting cash balance should be zero.

B. Show a BoughtX (Buy with the cash coming from another account). Same net effect.

Mike,

I performed the method B. It worked great! Thanks for your help.

But when i generate expense/income report for the period covering the transfer, i get a negative balance for the cash i transferred to the investment account. Any idea what is going on?

Thanks RT

IMHO Q views the transfer as an expense (from your checking account) and income into the investment account. Customize the report to not display transfers and I think you should see the data you're looking for.

God luck with Q
