How to stop Q04 from phoning home?

In anticipation of whatever shenanigans the mother ship plans in the next few days, I'd like to block off Quicken 2004's ability to connect to Intuit. I'm on a Win2000 system. What's the best way to do this, short of unplugging my internet connection?

Are you running a firewall?

If so, tell the firewall to block all connections to Intuit.

If you have a outbound checking firewall running, you could disable access for Quicken.

What shenanigans might that be?

I am happy with Q02; plan to keep it for a while.

I removed the one-step update button so I can not click it. Quicken provides a way to customize the button bar.

I don't think Quicken can zap you if you don't click one-step update.

This is what personal firewall software excels at. Give Zonealarm or Symantec firewall or whatever a whirl. The first time quicken tries to connect to the network, you'll be given a dialog box with options on what to do.

If you don't have a software firewall with outbound blocking capability, determine what intuit hosts are being contacted, and enter those in your \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file with 127.0.0.1 {=local host} - you will not be able to contact those server(s) until you remove the hosts entry

by this I mean things like

(not likely one of the servers you need to block)

Eric,

I'd like to know too. What's the genesis of your fear?

Barry, you need a space in your sig delimiter. "-- "
