Quicken 2004 - PIN Vault disappearted

Today, my Pin Vault disappered. No reason. Just gone.

So now, let me try to find all my pins, and see if it will let me re-enter them. Great.

What a lousy piece of software Quicken has become...

Okay, I found all my pins, and set up a new pin vault.

And of course, now that I exit and restart Quicken, the Pin Vault is gone.

Yeah, quality software...

Well, let's try it again...

Almost there. I created the Pin Value again, and this time when I restarted Quicken, the vault was there, but all the Pins were gone.

So, I added the Pins again, and now three of my Pins stay put, but one won't. No matter what I do, it won't stay in the Vault.

I guarantee you 100% that some developer at Intuit knows what this bug is, and how to workaround it. I wish they would post the workaround. (I've given up on them actually fixing bugs....)

Oh, it just keeps getting better.

Now that I have my Pin Vault semi-fixed, I just downloaded 116 transactions from SunTrust - all the back to October 2004!

Wow, what a time-saver Quicken is! I can't wait for Quicken 2006 - what does it do, show up at you house in the middle of the night and take money out of your wallet?

I have had Quicken versions for a very long time, but can only remember one instance *very* long ago (maybe Q for windows version 3??) where I had a 1 time problem with the pin vault. Of course, that (and other things Quicken-related and not) taught me to make backups, and backups, and backups.

Oh, puh-leeze. Pin Vault problems with Quicken are legendary. I have had Quicken since Q3W too, by the way, so you're preaching to the choir. Quicken used to be a great product. Now, frankly, it sucks.

And, I have backups too. But what's the point of making a backup if the program is so flakey that it's just going to corrupt it? I have backups galore, but they're all eventually going to screw me like this one has.

Anyway, on with the saga. I have laboriously deleted 113 transactions from my checking account. There's no way to select them all and click 'Ignore' - thanks again, Intuit. The careful reader will note that I said I had 116 transactions - yep, three of them won't go away. So I guess I'm stuck with them forever.

At this point, I give up. I'm just going to start over with a new datafile. My plan - and I recommend everyone else do this - is to start with a new datafile every year. It seems to be the only way to get it to work correctly. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll try Money.

Have it your way. I have only once had to discard a heap of early data. I never (certainly not in the last 5-10 years) had to start anew. I won't say I haven't had any problems, but Quicken has been reasonably good for me. Q2005 has had me use a few choice words since I "upgraded" from 2002, but I'm getting used to 05. It seems to have had far fewer problems than

2003 and 2004. I gather I may get close to retirement on this version ...
