Password vault change with Q 2010

I recently upgraded to 2010 Deluxe after Intuit gave me a copy when I accepted their offer for a Quicken credit card. One thing I've noticed is the change in behavior of the password vault.

With 2009, I entered the password to enable using the password vault. That would perform an update. If I tried another update within about 5 minutes, it would still work, but waiting longer required the password to be entered again.

Now, with 2010, there is no timeout. Once the vault password is entered, it remains unlocked until the program is shutdown.

I leave Quicken up all day long, along with most other programs that I run. I'd like to have the old functionality. Is there any way to have the vault behave like it did in Q 2009?

Thanks.

I notice no change in how the password vault works re requiring password re-input. But then again, I'm an obsessive backer-upper. If you enter your password vault password and then back up your file within Quicken, you'll be prompted for your password vault password before you can do OSU again. I expect this is because Quicken actually quits and restarts during the backup procedure.

My experience with Q2008, and my tests with Q2009, indicate that both products perform as you report Q2010 performing. That is: once the vault password has been provided, it is not asked for again in that Quicken "session". I can't find any evidence of any time limit: I waited 45 minutes in Q2008 and Q2009 and still was not required to re-enter the password.

I know of no Quicken option that controls this.

I believe this is a feature added several versions ago; as I recall, it was touted as being for One Step Updates, so you would only need to give Quicken the password once per session, and you could then do as many OSU's as you desired without having to supply the password again.

Until your post, I had never realized that the feature was also leaving the Password Vault open. I don't think leaving the Password Vault open should be necessary for the OSU feature to work, and it doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
