Q 2005 won't download AMEX transactions . . .

Jun 14, 2005 10 Replies

I tried to deactivate the online service for the AMEX account in Q2005, in order to re-establish it (and make it work), but it only gives the option to activate. When I try to activate, it says it is already activated. Obviously, some handshaking is lost between modules of the program. How can I fix this? Problem arose after upgrading from Q 2002, where it had worked fine.

Backup. Rename QDATA.QEL (where QDATA is the name you gave your Quicken data fileset). Plan to reactivate all your online accounts from scratch. If you hit insurmountable problems, revert to your backup.

Doing anything with the "QEL" file doesn't help. I just got the fix from Quicken. The problem was that I should have done a "Supervalidate" (SV) on the data file before upgrading from Q'02 to Q'05 (An SV would be recommended for anyone upgrading Quicken). I had to uninstall '05, install '02, SV the backup file created during the upgrade by the Quicken program (in folder "QUICKENW/Q0205"), and manually add the transactions since then from a printed register of the data file used since the upgrade. Obviously, Quicken should have authomatically included the "Supervalidate" process as part of the upgrade process.

For those not reading the Quicken forums, a brief duplication of my response there.

Since super-validate has been reported to cause problems of its own and since many people have converted successfully with running a super-validate, forcing a super-validate into the conversion process could prevent some users from being able to convert at all. I think it belongs being an option, even though I frequently recommend it to those who have had problems after a conversion.

but should have written: "and since many people have successfully converted withOUT running a super-validate, ..."

Now more problems with Q 2005, it won't let me create new tax line items. I get error 7060. I was able to do this a couple weeks ago. So the supervalidated Q 2002, which now allows me to download transactions from financial institutions in Q 2005 , won't allow me to create new tax line items assignments. What a friggin mess Q 2005 is! I've spent

16 hours so far trying to get Q 2005 to work, to no avail. I'm going to switch to MS Money. Quicken, despite being a virtual monopoly, apparently is to cheap to properly test and quality control their software. Anyone who says this is a usage problem has got stones in their head.

What do you do when you have a supervalidated (in both the source and object Q versions) conversion works for downloading fin inst transactions in Q '05, but it doesn't work for creating new tax line item assignments? (Now get error 7060 upon clicking "OK" in tax line assignment dialogue box, after enterin the details of the new item.) I've spent 16 hours so far trying to get Q 2005 to have the functionality o 2002, to no avail. This leaves little doubt in my mind that Q 2005 wasn't properly designed and tested. wait a few months to see if Quicken revises Q 2005 to have full functionality, but if the problems don't fixed I'm going to switch to MS Money. I shouldn't have had to uninstall '05, reinstall '02, supervalidate uninstall '02, and reinstall '05. Obviously, Quicken could have put all this functionality in Q '05, AND MA IT TRANSPARENT (I.E., CLEAN) TO THE USER! Shame on Quicken!!!

I beg to differ. There are situations where Super Validate can/may fix a problem. However, everything I've read, including from Intuit, clearly states that this is an option fraught with risks. It can easily damage a database. It should only be used when there is no other alternative. You

*MUST* have a backup of the database before doing it....

I and, I suspect, the vast majority have migrated without taking this step. No way it should be included as part of the upgrade process.... I've upgraded just about every year and have *never* had to run Super Validate. Most years, I even forget to run Validate.... ;-)

Now, if your suggestion were to run Validate automatically. I'd be behind that.

Show me one person who has upgraded from Q '02 to Q '05 who can define a new tax line item assignment AND download fin inst transactions. Part of the design of a program is for it to maintain the intergrity of the data it uses, but apparently Intuit doesn't think this is very important, or maybe they don't care enough to put the effort into doing it. All I hear on the forums is disparagement and complaints about Quicken. I can hardly believe I am an exception. No, I'm sure I'm the norm. You don't spend 16 hours trying to make an upgrade work, when you used the predecessor version for 3 years with no problem, and be able to reasonably conclude anything other than that the upgrade software was poorly designed and tested. What a disgrace! If I had Intuit stock I'd be dumping all of it. I have no faith in the company after what I have experienced. This is a sign of bad management. Employees not doing their jobs, getting away with sloppy work because of lax/negligent oversight. Doesn't matter what you call Quicken's data maintenance routine, the program itself should be constantly verifying the integrity of the data and making necessary repairs, transparent to the user.

How were you adding new Tax line items before the problem started? I didn't know you could create them.

Thanks

Mike

Don't know if you have "solved" you inability to deactive or not, but I discovered something yesterday. You can not deactive is Quicken as any "send" checks in the register. Just delete the word "send" from the register and then you can re-enter that command after you reactivated.

Also if you use the P>Show me one person who has upgraded from Q '02 to Q '05 who can define

SPAM has driven me to Spoof my email, sorry
