Downloading Transactions Problems -- Q2006

I have been reading about the ongoing problems Q2007 users are having downloading transactions. Is anyone having these same problems with Q2006?

I have never had any problems downloading transactions using Quicken

2006 Premier until this past week. I have some transactions at an investment company that have been in my account for almost a week but have not downloaded to Quicken despite several attempts. I get no errors and all downloads report as complete even though no transactions are downloaded. Sounds suspiciously like what has been happening with Q2007.

Anybody using Q2006 having a problem downloading transactions?

No problems at all (Vanguard, Fidelity). It might be your FI.

Well, it is still a no-go. I can see the new transactions when I log into Fidelity but they seem to be "stuck" and are not downloading into Quicken.

Never had this happen before.

Today I started having problems downloading transactions from Washington Mutual. I am using QW 2006, and get the error message "Unable to confirm financial institution information. Try again later." from Quicken itself, when it processes the QFX file. I last downloaded successfully on Jan 14, 2007. I noticed that WAMU changed the download portion of their website (sometime between Jan 14 and Jan 21) to insert a new confirmation step. Whatever other changes they made I don't know. The Quicken 2006 support site recognizes the error message, and says one of the following is the problem:

  1. System clock is incorrect on my computer (it's not).
  2. Back-level Quicken version prior to 2002. (Duh. No, it's QW 2006.)
  3. Financial institution information is corrupted. Deactivate online services for the account and then reactivate.

Hmmm, uh... ok. (No.3), I looked at the QFX file and compared the info to the "Account Overview" section in Quicken for the subject account, and it all matches. What happens when I "deactivate" online services (it's my primary checking account)? The Quicken web site does not say anything about what I am letting myself in for. Does anybody know? It's been so long ago that I activated the service that I don't remember the process (is there a delay, do I have to talk to somebody at the FI, will I lose any of my current FI data on Quicken... etc etc.)

Help!

Well, your milage may vary but I have successfully deactivated downloads from an account and then reactivated it immediately in the past. You will need to know the PIN number and other account information that you used when you activated the first time. I don't think that you will need to contact WAMU unless there is a problem.

Deactivating / reactivating didn't do anything. Still have the problem. However! I DID get it to work another way... Apparently the WAMU we programmers messed up their QFX file format sometime over the past week. By comparing the QFX log entries in Quicken from 1 week ago to today's, I found the missing information/tags :

3350 106974768284433

which needs to appear immediately after the tag. When I reinsert this back in, and then import the saved QFX file it works perfectly, updating the correct account.

Dunno if this will help you diagnose Fidelity (I also use Fidelity but haven't downloaded any transactions recently. I will try it if I get a moment).

Thanks very much for posting all that information. I took a look at the QFX log. Whew! That's a lot to go through to find what was missing. Glad you were able to figure out what you needed to do to fix your problem. I'm afraid that Mr. Phelps is going to pass on this mission (he never did that on MI, did he?).

Unfortunately, my previous log is not of any help because I have tried downloading a few times in the past few days and so, my previous QFX log also probably is missing what I need to be able to get a valid download.

I'm going to let it set for now and wait until I have some more transactions in the hope that it will "wake up" and start downloading again. Even if I never get these few transactions that I have missed, I can always enter them manually.

Will post back if (when) I get this figured out.

Well, decided to try my own advice and deactivate and then reactivate downloads on my "stuck" Fidelity account. And, what do you know, it worked! Quicken was able to retrieve the stuck transactions and all now seems to be OK.

I can't figure out what could have caused this except that my employer did start using Fidelity to process payroll at the beginning of the year (previously we only used Fidelity for our 401k). Maybe that switchover caused some sort of hiccups in Quicken?

Now, all that is left is to see if I continue to download new transactions the next time around.
