Community Discussion: Red Flag on Account but No Transactions Showing

I've been noticing for quite some time that many Quicken Community users are reporting that transactions are not downloading for them. But I couldn't find enough information in those reports to determine whether those users were experiencing the same problem I've been experiencing, so I never commented here.

The Discussion referenced above contains a description that matches my experience exactly. I see the problem consistently in R43.26 (currently, the release I use), but not so much in R45.13 (where I only test).

The original poster says, "After updating a "Red Flag" shows by an account that was updated. I click on the flag and it says there are 14 transactions to review. Then go to account and it says there are zero downloaded transactions ....".

A Quicken employee responded by directing the op to this Support Article

In my opinion, that article will do nothing to address the problem. First, the article assumes the user has told Quicken to "Automatically add" transactions to banking registers. Ignoring the fact that this problem can occur for either "banking" accounts and/or "investment" accounts (in the same download): it also does not address the situation where "Automatically add" is already turned off.

Then the article goes on to suggest the user go to the Online Center for the account in question, make sure the "Transactions" tab is selected, then (assuming there are downloaded transactions displayed on the "Transactions" tab) click the "Compare to Register" button.

In my experience, that will do nothing.

What follows is what I have been doing to work around the problem, with consistent success.

-Note which account types (banking and/or investment) have red flags but no transactions waiting to be accepted.

- Go to Edit > Preferences > Downloaded transactions, and put a checkmark beside the "Automatically add ...." account types (banking/investment) with the problem, then click OK.

Quicken will chug along for a while, during which time things may jump around in the Quicken window; then when control is returned to the user, the red flag by the account(s) in the Account Bar is gone, and the transactions have been added to their respective registers (or Transaction Lists, for investment accounts). In banking accounts (at least) the newly added transactions will have blue Status codes indicating their processing status.

When all transactions have been automatically accepted, I prefer to return the "Automatically add ...." "Downloaded transactions" preferences to their original state (unchecked).

[For users who always have "Automatically add ...." turned on, it's possible that:

- the problem won't occur, or

- the workaround should start with turning "Automatically add ...." OFF (and if that doesn't present transactions in the Downloaded Transactions tab of the accounts, turn "Automatically add ...." back ON. followed by restoring the "Automatically add" preferences to their normal setting.]

[Note that in every download where this problem presents itself in my Quicken file, the only accounts affected are those which used to employ the "Direct Connect" Connection Method, but now use Express Web Connect + (or plain Express Web Connect in the case of Discover).] [Last Community Post: January 11, 2022 @ 5:44AM]

This problem seems to have been fixed in release R46.12.
