incorrect 401K contribution information

I feel relatively certain that there are no "tools" that you can download to alter your Quicken data for the situation you describe. The "Tax Impact" account has been around a while and, as far as I know, it is directly controlled totally by Quicken. But you are the one who indirectly controls what goes into that account.

I believe that if you want to correct some problem in the Tax Impact account, you will have to correct the transaction(s) that "caused" the problem (the transaction date should help).

Thank you for your reply, John. The transaction is no longer there. It has been deleted. Quicken should have removed the corresponding transaction in this internal account but it did not. I tried data export with different dates but that doesn't help to fix this problem either. It stays even after I removed all my investment accounts. It would be deleted ONLY ofter I deleted the _401Contrib category (which is only allowed after all investment accounts were deleted.)

Any other ideas?

Maybe we should lobby Intuit to open up the database. There are open source database technologies. If they can convert their application to one of these, that certainly will benefit many people.

But will it benefit Intuit to make it easier to migrate their customers away to competing products?

I do not think this is a realistic expectation.

How about if you entered another transaction for the same date that would offset that original bad transaction. Then also delete that transaction. Seems like it would then have 2 internal transaction but with a sum of zero.
