Investing Activity Reports

I am having some problems interpreting the investment activity reports in Quicken 2009 HAB (Cdn). The reports permit one to scroll through year by year to see what has happened. When I scroll back 3 years, the ending balance of the previous year is not carried forward as the starting balance of the next year. If I go back further in time, the same thing happens. If I go ahead in time, the ending balance of the old year carries forward to the new year.

Second problem - if I go to one of these years where the starting balance doesn't agree with the ending balance of the previous period and open up a report and hover my cursor over the value of the unrealized gain, I get a more detailed report for the year that has a starting balance at the end of the first quarter and an ending balance at the end of the 4th quarter. The report doesn't start at the beginning of the 1st quarter. Any ideas as to why?

Third problem I have is that I get large unrealized gains and losses that essentially cancel each other out, but I cannot find out why I get this large amounts.

Thanks.

Doug
