IRA

Using 2006 Basic. Anyone know why a normal IRA distribution will not post to the Tax Schedule Report unless the "to" date is past Dec 31, 2006? TIA

Don't know if this will help your particular situation but here is a link to an earlier thread which may be related;

This thread is lengthy but the 'light begins to come on' as you progress through the exchange. QW does have problems properly reporting tax consequences of IRA distributions - under some situations. This earlier thread was shortly after QW06 released and thus likely R1. I just spent a few minutes in a test file [w/ R4] and still see some strange behavior.

In my recent tests I was able to get a CY2006 distribution to report to the Tax Sched Report.

More trivia - I could not get a dsitribution dated in 2005 to report - except by selecting 'Include all dates' in the report customization. The 20005 transaction insisted on showing '2006' in the register entry and this value is not open to editing. Further, did find that QW appears to looking at the system calendar to get this date - not the date you enter for the transaction. If I set my system date back to

2005, QW would enter 2005 in the transaction - regardless of the date I entered in the transaction window.

Bottom line - don't have an answer for your situation but can confirm that there are flaws in QW's system for handling IRA's.

I currently take regular distributions from a 401k. The account is set up simply as a tax-deferred brokerage account [just never bothered to convert the account type]. It has worked flawlessly for me in all respects. I may take on the task of converting or switching the IRA to a simple tax-deferred account before I start tapping it - if QW doesn't get things fixed soon.

Ok, thanks JM. Chat didn't have and answer either. This problem goes back for a few years. I update Quicken yearly and prior to 2005 the IRA distribution would post if the date were anything less than Dec. 31 of the same year. 2005 started the "past the end of the current year" bug. Pretty sure about the years stated. Anyway, I believe TurboTax overides the date goof.
