Need to Downgrade Quicken!!

My mom used Quicken 2000 for Mac and before that probably a circa 1998 version for Windows.

I recently upgraded her to Quicken 2006 Basic... and she doesn't like it.

I see what she means -- for a person who just wants to balance a checkbook and doesn't use online banking, all of the bells and whistles are a pain in the butt. (Does she really need to "rate" the neighborhood kid who mows her yard?)

What version do I need to go back to (on the Windows side) to get a version without all the bullshit, especially on the start page? Is there a page that shows the different versions and allows me to look at the opening screen/interface?

Thanks! -Cloy

Going back will be difficult because there's no previous version of Quicken which can read Q06 files.

I'd suggest you play around with the Preferences. It's not too hard to set things up 'the old way'. In particular, you can tell Quicken to start up with a particular register rather than the home page.

Thanks for your response, Fred.

I have tried changing the settings, but there is a ton of irrelevent, distracting stuff that just can't be turned off -- like the aforementioned ratings section for "vendors." The sections for online banking and investments are another example. (If I'm missing something, and these items can be deactivated, please let me know.)

At this point, we haven't used used the 2006 version long enough to have a lot of data entered, so going back to the old version won't be tough. (That reminds me another dumb-ass feature that Intuit has added

-- the ability to export a .QIF backup file, but no ability to import it.)

Thanks again for your response.

I don't have any of the problems you are having, however, I have Canadian Quicken, so yours may be different.

I suggest you post another message, to the effect of "How do I turn off ...". Ensure you specify the version of Quicken you are using. You'll get a response from your neck of the woods.

Actually, I think it's fairly simple to import a QIF file. Simply start a new CASH account and import the QIF file there. Then highlight all entries and copy them and paste into the checking account or wherever you want them. Seems to work pretty reaily, unless I'm mistaken (always possible).

After much improvisation, searching various Quicken groups, posting here, poring through pages and pages, and lnks and links...I chanced on the same sequence as Cloy discovered. In my case, upgrading to Q2006 Basic from QW6 Deluxe, I was alsobaffled by misdatings of thye years (1905 instead of 2005, 1906 for 2006). When it cqame to the Checking avvount, witrh entries too numerous for correcting dates transaction by transaction, I highlighted the 1905 and 1906 transactions, hit Delete on the Q menu, then downloaded the untouched and desired 2006 transactions to a specially temporary account, which I ID's as TEST. I'm sure there are more efficient, more elegant ways to achieve saving the transactions...but in light of the stupendous amounts of time I spent trying to find the method, I'm augmenting Cloy's solution and hoping it'll help another weary drowning Q victim.

OOPS, my apologies for the typos (which seem almost cutesy but are annoying) and I apologize, too, because the downloading sequence I attributed to Cloy actually came from DietRite. So, a belated acknowledgment to DietRite...( Not to take too much from Cloy, a thank-you for asking the question in the right way to elicit DietRite's response.) The readiness of people who jump in to offer help warrants the gratitude of all of us who find ourselves floundering in the roiling oceans in which we are abandoned by Intuit. The same Intuit that pronounces its "concerns" by asking us to help them "improve" its own shortcomings... Why? So Intuit can perpetrate ever greater detachment from the users?

I'm using Q2006 Deluxe with Cash Flow Center as my startup page. I don't see any sections for rating vendors, online banking, or investments. (There is a very small area for online updates.) Most of the page is devoted to account summaries, scheduled transactions, and a cash flow summary.

If you are talk> Thanks for your response, Fred.
