Miscellaneous Brokerage Expense not flowing as expected

I've entered a MiscExp in a Brokerage account to account for a fee. The Brokerage account has an Associated Cash Account. I expected the fee to flow to the Cash account, just like any other cash transaction that occurs in the Brokerage account. But it didn't!

The fee does not show up as a withdrawal from any account! It is as if it had no impact. (As a work around I have recorded the fee in the Cash Account as a simple withdrawal,( The MiscExp transaction type appears to not be working correctly since it has no impact all. I ahve reported it as a bug to Intuit.

I'm using QW2007 Premier. Bernie

I was unable to replicate the behavior you describe.

Are there some other interesting characteristics of the transaction or the accounts?

Does the MiscExp transaction show with an Action value of "MiscExpX"? Does the "Transfer account" correctly display as the cash account? And the Description field says "Transfered $nn.nn"?

Was the investment account converted from a previous version? Linked in the previous version?

Thanks for responding John. When you tried it, did you get the result that I expected?

I've used Quicken for years, so yes, this account has moved forward from version to version. All other transactions between the Brokerage account and the Associated Cash Account do work correctly (dividends, sales, purchases, buyouts). This is the first time I've ever had to record a fee.

To enter the transaction in the Brokerage account I choose MiscExpX and fill in the blanks in the popup window, inputting $25 for the amount and a category. The transaction gets recorded in the Brokerage account with the transaction type showing MiscExp (no X). The Inv Amt column in the register shows blank. Nothing is recorded in the associated cash account.

Yes, the MiscExpX amount was "transferred" to the linked cash account.

Ah ha; this turns out to be important; who'd a thunk it.

When I entered my MiscExp transaction, I started with the "Enter Transactions" button, and selected "Miscellaneous Expense" in the "Enter transaction" drop down.

When I select "MiscExpX" in the "Action" drop down, then double-click the transaction to get the form, and finish the transaction ... I get the same result you got.

So I agree, you did indeed find a bug; fortunately, the workaround is fairly simple: use the "Enter Transactions" button.

I'll try to check in Q2008 later tonight to see if it is still there (I'm guessing it is as I don't recall it being reported before.)

The bug is also in Q2008 R3.

I submitted one in the Quicken forums too.
