Okay - Quiken and Bank updates are confusing

I am updating Quicken, either through Quicken or exporting them from my bank. But when I went to balance the statement, it wasn't even close. On my old Quicken versions, I had to pay my bills online, then I went to quicken and entered them all there, and then entered them all a third time in my bank register booklet. Now with this new Quicken 2005, I thought the download would take care of that, but what I think I am seeing is that it just downloads checks that have cleared, not checks you just paid through online, so I never really know my balance. I don't care if the check has cleared or not, I want to know my balance after just writing the check, not whether it has cleared or not. I don't know if I have made myself clear here or not, I know what I mean, but don't know how to describe it ery well. Hopefully someone out there will understand my dilemma. I am not sure now if my Quicken balance includes uncleared checks or not. As soon as I pay a bill online, I want to export it to Quicken so it shows up there. But I don't think I can do that. I also notice Quicken doesn't say who the check was written to, just says check. So if anyone can help clear this up, I would appreciate it. Maybe Quicken

2003 is easier, even if it is way more time consuming, but I would think the latest Quicken would be the best. Thank you.

Your Quicken register and balance will reflect all entries that appear in the register. So if you wrote the online check via Quickens "Direct connect" feature, it should appear in the register. If you went to your bank's site to write the check, it may only appear when your bank cuts the check.

If the check is in your register when you download, then the downloaded check will be matched to the existing entry, thus adopting the Payee and other information in the existing entry. If you download a check that has not been entered in your register, then you will get whatever data your bank puts in the payee field as the payee information.
