OT: Yikes! Another merchant goes belly up.

I don't care what W. and Ben say. I've never had 2 merchants go belly up on me the same quarter. Filing my dispute with Capital One Visa Signature this time. This feels like the 70's all over again, except nobody I traded with back then actually went under.

I fear stagflation is going to be a best-case scenario going forward.

Reminds me of the old joke: It's a recession is when your neighbor loses his job; it's a depression is when you lose yours.

OK, one was CompUSA - we've learned this from the other thread. Who is your second merchant?

I would like to oblige, but I do post under my real name. Even though there are probably hundreds, if not thousands of Bob Wang's around, if I posted the name of this specialty merchant, my line of business would be evident, and I'm pretty sure I may be the only Bob Wang in that field ;-)

That said, I should have been suspicious when they switched to PayPal payments instead of direct credit cards. I've already filed a claim with PayPal, and disputed the PayPal charge with Capital One. It's only $120, no big deal, not like a set of furniture.

So, another warning sign may be when a merchant switches from credit cards to PayPal. As an aside, I DO like Q2008's ability to download PayPal transactions the very day of payment.

Please do not take offense at my wish to remain somewhat anonymous.

Bob P.S. There's no danger of anybody else ordering items that fail to arrive since the merchant's web site and telephone numbers are now inoperative.
