I really like the idea of having merchant services integrated into POS. I don't like the extra $15 / month & .1% I'll be paying. Anyone know if there's a way to use another processing service?

The "idea" is a good one; the practice sucks.
Hello John,
You are not required to use the Intuit merchant services with POS. Process your sales receipts as usual in POS, choosing credit card in the payment window but then you will manually have to enter the credit card charges with the equipment that your other merchant provides to enter and batch credit card charges.
Complete your End of Day as usual in POS but it will not automatically process your credit card transactions unless you have signed up for Intuit Merchant Services.

- The POS station is dead until the transaction is cleared. That means you can't begin the next sale for the duration of the clearing process.
- You are locked in to one authorization center (of maybe 50 or so) and one (no so good) rate.
- You redundancy is nil. With stand-alone systems, you can always validate the transaction via an 800 number.
