Past Microsoft Money Users - Question about Ads

Sep 12, 2006 1 Replies

Are there any past users of Microsoft Money out there who were bugged enough by the advertising in Money to switch to Quicken?

I use Quicken personally, but I have to cover Money as well for my work writing reviews and tutorials for personal finance software. When I use Microsoft Money, the advertising really gets on my nerves. I recently clicked on the Taxes tab in Money 07 and an ad for Jessica Alba's new movie appeared in a box on the Taxes page. I click on items that I think will be planning tools and instead, a browser pops up with content from the MSN Money website.

I sincerely hope Intuit never decideds to go this route with Quicken, it is sooo irritating. I don't understand why Microsoft would need to generate income through advertising in Money, especially with the unrelated ads in personal finance software.

This bugs me so much that I decided to blog about it, and I don't usually use my blog to vent frustrations. I would love to hear opinions posted in my blog post comments at

I've used Quicken since the DOS days. I love the program. That said, the very nano-second I see an ad, it goes in the trash and I will find something else. Very sad microsoft decided to alienate their customers that way. They may have a good product, but a lot of people will never use it for that reason.

Then again, it's because of the ads on microsoft messenger that I got pushed away and discovered Skype. Far superior product, and I have microsofts ads to thank for changing to it.
