Q'05 file is too big

Mar 22, 2005 4 Replies

My File has grown just too large, it dates back to 1997. How do I reduce the size? Should I close the book every year? If that than how do I check up on long past transactions, (like magazine subscriptions, NPR contributions).

Thanks

How large? Why do you think its "too large"?

How small do you want it?

That depends on your answer to my previous question.

You have two choices if you need Q for this:

  1. Keep things as they are, unless there's a problem.
  2. Save prior years' filesets for when you want access to transactions not in your active fileset.

#1 is, by far, my first choice.

Around 2001 I did a truncation to 1/1/2000. I keep the old file around for when I need to go back before 1/1/2000. If and when the current file gets unwieldy I'll do it again, but I'll always keep at least the past 12 months in the current file.
