Q 2006 Invoice Images

I understand that the newest version (2006) allows you to "easily" attached a scanned image of an invoice to your payments. How easy is this and how does it work? Will any cheap scanner do? Doesn't this take up a huge amount of hard drive space? Thanks, RFH
