I bought, haven't installed Q 2007-should I return it & get 2006? (must update from '04 for transaction DL's)

I bought Quicken 2007, but haven't yet cracked the seal. The bug reports here are nightmarish. I take it that 2006 doesn't have these problems? I really would prefer to keep using 2004, but Intuit will be disabling it shortly.

Perhaps by the time the 2006 version is sunsetted, they'll have fixed the bugs in 2007?

Intuit should really get sued for this. Unfortunately, the lawyers would clean up, and all we'd get is a coupon good for $5 off a new version of Quicken that would promptly destroy our data.

Brad:

You have to make your own decision, but keep in mind that there are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of Q2007 users who are not experiencing significant problems.

There are annoyances in Q2007, but I find the improvements well worth the occasional headache.

Plus, if you have two computers, you can always run two versions in parallel for awhile.

All my personal and business financial transactions dating back to 1989 are in Quicken. I upgraded from Q2005 to Q2007 a month or two ago, and haven't had a problem of significance yet. My data file is about 25 MB. I wouldn't worry too much about upgrading to Q2007, but that's me.

An aside query on this . . . . all this talk of disabling the 2004 version . . . . disabling what features? Older versions still work well for downloading of routine transactions, some report downloading of quotes etc. with older versions. What exactly is to be disabled (on a global scale affecting all users)?

I've had no problems with 2007, but then I don't do anything "fancy" with it. Perhaps there are problems I'm not aware of, but as I said, so far it appears to be fine.

Keep in mind that problems/complaints/rants get reported in newsgroups but good news hardly does. Judging any software on the proportion of bad vs. good postings is not very useful.

If you've watched this ng, you would see that *EVERY* version of Q *and TT) has generated postings with "bad" news.

I've been using Q for over 12 years and I've never seen any previous version get as low a level of complaints as 2007. I've upgraded just about every year and I have to tell you that this one upgraded the easiest and fastest of any so far. I have had zero problems and one minor complaint. Every function I use for banking, downloading transactions, investments, backups has worked flawlessly. My overall impression is that it runs noticeably faster that Q06 (my guess, though is it may run slower that Q04). I would recommend Q07 over Q06 100% of the time.

You should have a 30 day return policy for the software. Back up your current version, validate it and try the upgrade. There's a large number of us here who will help you get through any problems..
