Quicken 6 will not import Quicken 2000 data files

I have a new computer with Quicken 6 New Users Edition preloaded. I have been unable to import my data from either a CD-RW disc (will not acknowledge any data on disc and while it sees the data files on a thumb usb data drive it says file is not ready. Is Quicken 2000 too old to be compatable? Will it import to Money that is preloaded also on the machine?

Try copying the file from the CD-RW to the hard drive. Then, right click the file, select properties and remove the "read only" attribute from the file and then see if you can import the file into Quicken from your hard drive.

After doing some reading turns out Quicken 5 for New Users will not import data files DESPITE a step in setting up the accounts. This was found in the information you had to did for. Pretty slimy. So I had to go out and purchase Quicken 2006 Basic. I'll let you know if I have any trouble importing files to this version.

Please re-read the name of the product, especially the "New User" part of the name. It is a give-away to allow "new" users to try Quicken. You are not a "new" user; the "new" user version will not import/convert any data from any previous version.

To be fair then they should not have had a selection during the start up process asking you if you were a new or current user. If you were a current user they asked you for the location of the files to restore. Figure that out!

Restoring files is not the same as converting (or importing) files; "New User" version should not prevent backups and restores. The user of a "New User" version could have legitimate backup files from the same version year to restore, and the New User version should be able to restore them. The proscription is against files from earlier versions of Qucken.

It does sound like the error message when the New User version sees a fileset from an earlier version of Quicken could be more specific to the problem.
