Quicken Annoyance

In QD 2006, when I create a scheduled transaction, Quicken defaults the "Account to use" to an account I never want it to use. In fact, it's not the first account, so I have no idea why it's picking the account it does.

Is there any way to change that default account?

Rick,

How are you creating the scheduled transaction?

For a simple transaction in a non-investment account, I just right-click on an instance of the transaction in the desired account and select "Schedule transaction...". This has always given me the correct default account. I always create a register entry for the first instance of the transaction before I try to schedule it, even of I have to enter the first instance with a date in the future.

What hasn't worked for me is trying to Edit the "Account to use" field for an existing scheduled transaction. This always seems to revert to the original value. I just delete the old one and reschedule it from the new/correct account.

If you're dealing with a more complicated case like a loan or paycheck, I'll have to defer to someone else in this group.

FWIW I have Q06 Prm H&B.

I usually go into the calendar and create it from there. Hadn't thought about creating it from a previous transaction. That would work for some, but not all of the in advance transactions.

The biggest problem happens with rebate checks. I tend to create a calendar entry 8-10 weeks after I mail the paperwork in as a reminder. Those tend to be unique, but I suppose I could just grab any rebate deposit and edit from there.

Or move it to the correct account after you save it to the register.

Try right-clicking on *any* existing transaction in the register for the appropriate account, selecting "Schedule transaction...". then editing the Payee, Category, Amount, etc. fields. That seems to work. You can then probably dispense with the calendar entry.

Oops, I misunderstood what you said and then just repeated it in my own words.

I should have just replied "Great idea" :-)

Fine for "Once only" xacts but not for repeating xacts, especially those that are automatically entered.
