quicken download messed up the program

I decided to download the latest changes to my 2007 Premier versiion which I had not used yet, but was loaded by me on my Vista computer in February. The download went to the extreme right side in the bar that shows you the loading progress and stuck there so I had no alternative than to reboot the computer.

Using my original disk, it does not allow me to reinstall it since it senses it is still on the computer, or to modify, repair, and delete from the disk, the 3 choices that come up. I cannot delete the program with the Windows' uninstall program either. I could delete the folder with the remainder of the program, but I am afraid that there could be some other file that will tell the computer that Quicken is still valid on the computer.

I think the file being updated hen the error occurred is the main application file since I cannot find it in the folder.

what to do?

Hi, Steve.

I had a similar experience early this year when trying to get Revision 3 for Quicken 2007 Basic into my Vista Ultimate x64. I reported it in an extensive thread here, but that may have scrolled off the server. If you want to search, the Subject is: Quicken 2007 Revision 3 is ready - but won't install for me, started by me on January 5, 2007.

At that time, Vista was still in beta and the x64 version had more problems than the 32-bit version. My travails included booting into 32-bit Vista and installing Quicken there for comparison. Also, I copied the entire Quicken CD-ROM to my hard drive to get around some apparent hassles with reading from my CD drives. I don't care to relive that whole experience and mention it only to say that you do have company.

My final resolution may not be the same as yours, but a simple thing to try is to just delete (or rename) the qw.exe file. Then try to install Quicken from the CD again. That has worked for me more than once. Right-click on the install.exe file and click Run as Administrator. After installation, you should be able to get the latest Revision (mine is R5) installed without trauma.

So long as your DATA files (QDATA.QDF, etc.) are safe, don't worry about deleting any of Quicken's application files. They are all easily replaced from the CD.

With all the Vista beta testing last year, I re-installed Quicken more than two dozen times on my one computer. I learned to bail out of the install program just before the final Finish button, then use Windows Explorer to navigate to my .qdf file and click on it to start the new Quicken installation with my data file loaded. I still had to make a few minor tweaks and Register - again - using my age-old Quicken name, but it was almost painless.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- thanks for the reply. I finally was able to repetively remove quicken

07 from the Vista Dell and reinstall it successfully. I had to use the Microsoft program called Windows Install Cleanup since the Control Panel normal way of removing a program would not work. The problem I had was in the upgrade to revision 5 which downloaded, but never took so when I bailed out I had no qw.exe file left.

I still have the same problem. when I try to upgrade to revision 5, from my disk of revision 2, it downloads and just stays there with the blue horizontal completion percentage bar at 100%, but nothing then happens. I have tried this several times and the only saving grace is that I can wipe it out and reinstall it again to revision 2. I would like to go to revision 5 just to have the latest. I have not used this 07 version yet although I bought it last Fall. I finally have time after moving out to the country to use it. I have been using version 04 and have a lot of financial data that I do not to want to carry over since I am now retired so i will put in everything that is financial current and keep the 04 version on another computer for archival/tax purposes.

any more suggestions on the rev 2 to rev 5?

Hi, Steve.

It has been so long ago that I don't remember and I don't really want to do the research to relive the experience. :^{

But, as I recall, my failed upgrade was also from R2 (to R3). Your best bet may be to skip all the intermediate steps. Just reinstall Quicken 2007 from the CD, and then upgrade directly to R5, skipping all the in-between ones. Each revision should "roll up" all the still-relevant parts of prior releases, so that the latest one is all you need to install.

Or, given the current date...just get Q2008 and skip Q2007 altogether.
