Quicken Update

I'm using 2012 R7 (21.1.7.18) Question: As I don't use Q for anything but tracking my stocks, bonds and other instruments portfolo and use only update quotes portion of Q H&B,with the real possiblility of Q being soldm is there a good reason to update to anything later? 2012 still works and I haven't gotten any notices that that will stop in the future, so why? R. Wink

Just as Q2015 (and later) will neither install nor run on Win XP, there's a very real possibility that Q2012 won't run on a future operating system. That's pretty much the risk that you're taking.

If memory serves, there is an 'End Of Life' trap in the code. That means that after x number of years (10?) it will stop working regardless of o/s. So there's that to consider :) Might want to do a search on their site for that phrase.

There is no "end of life" trap in Quicken.

There could be reasons why a user can not run an old Quicken version, but code in the program intended to prevent the program from running in the future is not one of them.

I thought that there WAS some sort of "end of life" for Q Canada, at 10 years.

I'm in Canada, so it might not be my memory, just my nationality that's causing this flashback :) Still, it's a moot point.

I didn't think that ANY of the downloading features even the quotes, would work after the 3 year sunset... ... Q2012 --> sunset Spring 2015

That is the only reason I upgrade, but then I download not only quotes, but all my investment transactions from - Schwab, Fidelity, TRowe, Vanguard & Chase.

I think you're right that at one time there was. Sorry, I was thinking only of the U.S. version. If I recall correctly, those Canadians who ran into the old Quicken eol were eventually able to get upgraded for free.
