Quicken vs MSoft Money

What's that old saying? Better the devil you know than the devil you don't!!!

If your needs are basic, why are you bothering with tech support instead of posting your problem here? (I'd ask the same question even if your needs were highly advanced !)

I have posted multiple times with much discussion and no solution (see "Q 2008 won't remember data location on new install" and "Install Problem"). After 2+ hours online with Q support last night I think that's about all I can take. If you have a solution that would be great.

Thanks for the references. Just read the first thread, and see where you're coming from.

Only thing I might suggest trying is to remove with Vista Control Panel (not the Quicken utility), reload Quicken by right clicking on the install file and choosing run as administator, then do a restore.

If that doesn't work, I'd be suspicious of the cut and paste file you mention - not sure I understand what you mean on that.

Bob, I've read through the other threads, and seen multiple requests for information from those trying to help you. The one thing that I didn't see in your responses was the path to the data files. Now, it is apparent that the data is on the network, and that is the source of your problem. In the other thread, I told you how to map a network drive. Try it, and let us know if it helps.

I had exactly the same symptom using a shared directory. When I mapped it to a network drive, it worked OK.

MS has essentially thrown in the towel on MSMoney. They did not release a 2009 version.

I believe I mentioned that multiple paths on the multiple installs were tried. Default, desktop, network, Document folder, etc.

In Jan 2005 I switched from Quicken to Money. I had nothing but problems with the data as would continuing to become corrupt. I switched back to Quicken in May of that year and had to pay the price of basically starting over and basically through some imports and a lot of time I recreated history from 1/2003 forward and all of my investment history to the beginning of my time (first stock 5/1976....).

I did like the reports in Money. I didn't like the interface (very buggy for that year Money 2005) - it was the year they introduce the Yodlee interface. People complain about the ads in Quicken, Money was much much worse. Many of the items in clicked through to the web and were nothing more then advertising sites or services you could subscribe too. None were useful for me.

There is a Money NewsGroup. I would suggest that you go there and read the issues. I thing you will find more problems then what I generally see here. Also Money no longer has annual releases which may be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.
