Retrieving datat

I sold a majority of a mutual fund recently. I neglected to record the cost basis and market value. I could delete this transaction, record the info and then correct everything by restoring my latest backup. Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks, Jimt

I don't understand the question. (And I don't think the solution you describe sounds like it would "solve" any problem.)

Why would you need to delete a transaction?

If you have a "Sell" transaction in your Quicken investment account register with a zero amount; why don't you think the thing to do is to enter the correct amount of the sale?

And why do you think you need to enter anything relating to the "cost basis"? Assuming you entered the original purchase transaction(s) correctly, the cost basis is already entered.

I'm getting the same reaction I did to your first post.

Cost basis is entered when you purchase shares, not when you sell them.

Find the transaction(s) that created your holdings in the security in the first place; adjust those transactions to indicate the cost.

(And modifying your current file, then restoring a backup, will only overwrite whatever change you made in your current file, so I think you can forget that strategy).

With Quicken Deluxe 2001 you can find the cost basis for any security you own by going to Portfolio View and then selecting the Portfolio Value view. That seems to be what you have described. Perhaps you are seeking the basis for just those shares you sold. Once your sell transaction is entered you can get the basis for the sold shares with the Capital Gains Report. Go to Reports -> Investing -> Capital Gains Report. I assume that Quicken 2004 functionality must be similar.
