ROI calculations

HI Group,

I'm using Quicken 2016 for Windows. I have a stock holding in an investment account w/ a appx 5% unrealized gain and a dividend payment yet Quicken is showing the ROI as a negative -7%.

This does not make sense. If there is a unrealized gain and dividend payment the ROI should be positive, yes? Can anyone explain why there is a negative ROI for this holding?

I would start with Quicken Help on the subject of ROI.

- Help > Quicken Help > Search Quicken Help.

- Key roi in the search box and click "iSEEK".

- Select "Tell me about key investment performance calculations used in Quicken" in the list of topics on the left.

- Expand the "Return on investment (ROI) topic on the right.

- Expand each of the blue subtopics on the right ("Simple example", "Example with Sell and ReInvDiv" and "How ROI works in Quicken".
