Screen Flicker in Quicken 2008...ever fixed?

Hello ALL:

I just built a new system (XP Pro 32bit sp3) and now have the Screen Flicker issue. We do use IntilliPoint software as well.

Has this issue ever been fixed and does Quicken 2009 have the same issue? Also, I have seen some say they need to downgrade the Intellipoint sw to ver 5.2. Others say that does not work.

TIA

I have Q2009 Deluxe and have the flicker issue. I haven't heard that Intellipoint is the cause. Any other information on this?

I have Intellipoint. I noticed the screen flicker in the last few months of Q2007H&B usage. Recently switched to Q2009P and I think it's there too. Not too bad so I ignore it, but would like to hear of a fix. No other app has this problem. Typical Intuit poor programming.

You might try blaming Logitech, reading the Intuit forums will point out this is often cured by changing your mouse and/or your mouse software.

I went to a MSFT mouse with SetPoint software and fixed the flicker, currently I'm using a Logitech mouse with a program called X-mouse button control which gives me the essential (to me!) ability to double click with the middle button.

NOTE: If you're using a Logitech webcam I don't know of a fix, sorry.

No. Blame Intuit. I have no Logitech devices at all on my computer and I have the screen flicker problem in Q2009 Deluxe.

I use Intellipoint and have a fast graphics card to run my CAD software. I will not downgrade because some dolt in a cube at Intuit can't write code to interface with input device drivers correctly. I have no other software that behaves this way. In fact the Q2006 that they made me give up didn't behave this way.

So you should blame Logitech since you ARE running Intellipoint, if you'll read the Logitech forums you'll find Intellipoint does indeed conflict with other software, it's not only Intuit products.

Again, don't blame Intuit for Logitech's failure to provide working software.

short answer: NO

I've seen nothing but horror stories on the Quicken Community Forums regarding screen flickering - going back to version 2007, and maybe earlier. I found that with 2008 Deluxe I had the same problem. My screen flickers and redraws so often this application is unusable.

2009 might be a different story but considering Intuit's responsiveness to bugs, I wouldn't count on it.

Suggested fixes in their forums included an entire gamut of possibilities, from dozens of users, all claiming their method works. Fixes include; changing PDF driver settings, changing fonts, lowering screen resolutions & video driver acceleration, removing USB devices, and uninstalling MS Intellipoint. (IOW, these are all the things that you should never have to do with properly written software)

From all the different "solutions" posted there, two things seem to be clear; .. that Intuit has absolutely no idea what's causing this problem, and that they have no intention of fixing it.

Does that sound about right? I run dozens of applications on XP-SP3 & Vista systems here and NONE of them seem to have this problem. CLEARLY this is an issue with Quicken, even though it is more expedient and fashionable these days to place blame elsewhere. I especially liked the post there that contained a reply from Intuit claiming that this was "not a known issue" - why then the literally dozens of pages in their forum stating otherwise??... The old classic "head-up-our-ass" response

No one from Intuit ever even tries to explain why this problem still exists after what seems like years of consumer complaints, and why it isn't being fixed. This is a dealbreaker if there ever was one...

FWIW, seems that when Quicken programming moved offshore, all semblance of Customer Support went with it...

why are there so many volunteer Intuit apologists?

sounds like the Vista fanboy base... Oooohhmmmmmm - Microsoft can do no wrong...!

Upgrading to Intellipoint 6.3 does seem to make the issue for me better.

That is an interesting point. If you were using Logitech you wouldn't have any issues but because you aren't you are having issues. What?

Read closely - I do not have any Logitech software on my computer. None, nada, zilch. I have the flicker issue. Or at least I did until upgrading to Intellipoint 6.3. The jury is still out however.

As expressed by others the folks at Intuit should be a little more responsive on this.

Cheers,

john
