Screen Flicker Issues in Quicken 2007, 2008

Browsing the Quicken Community Forums, I've seen nothing but horror stories there regarding screen flickering - going back to version

2007, and maybe earlier. I just had an opportunity to take 2008 Deluxe for a test spin (currently using 2006 Deluxe) and found the same problem. My screen flickers and redraws so often this application is unusable. Suggested fixes there included and entire gamut of possibilities, including changing PDF driver settings, changing fonts, lowering screen resolutions & video driver acceleration, removing USB devices, and uninstalling MS Intellipoint. From all the different "solutions" posted there, two things seem to be clear; .. that Intuit has absolutely no idea what's causing this problem, and that they have no intention of fixing it. Does that sound about right? I run dozens of applications on XP-SP2 & Vista systems here and NONE of them seem to have this problem. CLEARLY this is an issue with Quicken, even though it is more expedient and fashionable these days to place blame elsewhere. (I especially liked the post there that contained a reply from Intuit claiming that this was "not a known issue" - why then the dozens of pages in their forums stating otherwise??...) Apparently this problem still exists after what looks like years of consumer complaints, and it isn't even being addressed, much less fixed. This is a dealbreaker if there ever was one...

Change the video refresh rate.

I've tried that - including all of the other "fixes" people suggested and NOTHING works.

I mentioned this in the above topic "Re: Support ending for 2005" on

1/21/08. Just coming off Q2005D this sucks big time. We purchased two copies of Q2008 and the screens are erratic on both systems. I don't see why should have to change anything to accommodate Quicken. This was should have been an upgrade but it now looks like a downgrade. The first thing I did was change the refresh rate but it made no difference. I tired different resolution, themes and it made no difference either. On one system when we launch Quicken the splash screen comes up it says Quicken 2007, WTF is that? We went from Q2005 to Q2008, where is it getting the Q2007 from? When we checked the ABOUT it does say Q2008 but without fail every time we launch it we will get the Q2007 splash screen. I'm not sure we will have any and answer for the mysterious splash screen but I'd love to resolve the erratic screen, it's very annoying. Please keep us posted if you resolve it.

I first noticed this in Quicken 2007 deluxe, running on XP Pro SP2. I had upgraded from Quicken 2004. Bought Quicken 2006 deluxe, hoping it might go away, it did not.

I recently installed Vista 64 bit, to dual boot with XP Pro, and have installed Quicken 2008 Deluxe on it about a week ago, so far, I am not seeing that behaviour running in Vista 64 bit, as I do running it in XP Pro.

Typo above, meant to say " Bought Quicken 2008 Deluze ", hoping it might go away... not Q2006...

That is exactly my point. Listening to some of the suggestions I see here and on the Quicken boards reminds me of the gold ol' days when you had to stand on one foot with tin foil in one hand while you held the rabbit ears on your B&W TV with the other to get a picture...

We had B&W via rabbit ears back in the day. Now we have TV service via fiber optic, it's some real cutting-edge shit if that's what you like... so what's your point, do you have a point or are we just dick'en around?

nah, I'm just saying there's no reason why I should have to reconfigure a perfectly working PC in order to accomodate one piece of poorly written software. Like the suggestion to change my refresh rate - I shouldn't have to do this, all my other dozens of apps don't complain.

Agreed

Especially, if you have a LCD monitor with a fixed resfresh rate.

My PC has exactly the same issue, Win XP, dual core. This is the only app that has a problem like that.

I backed up my files and during the backup/copy, it looked like the program was going to break.
