quicken H&B 2008, Register problems

In my transaction registers , the space to display multiple transactions is constantly being shortened to allow only one transaction at a time to be displayed. What causes this is that the bottom part of the screen which shows tabs for downloaded and scheduled transactions gets expanded. I finally figured out how to reduced it back to it's pre Q 2008 size but it does not stay reduced and I don't know why activates it.

The other problem in transaction registers which is even more annoying is that nothing happens when I click in the category area. I can see it is getting filled in with the previously recorded category but I only get a flash of that before it contracts. Clicking on the drop down arrow which used to show the category list does nothing. The only way I am able to clearly see the category or modify it is to go to the split screen even if I don't want to split the transaction. Everything looks as it should on that screen, with plenty of space to display each field. I suspect this has something to do with the addition of tags and perhaps the memo field, but don't know exactly what.

I'm starting to really dislike version 2008. v 2007's interface was self explanatory and worked.

I would have posted before, but I didn't (and don't) think I have any helpful info.

I have never seen (or read of) anything like what you describe in your first paragraph. And I can't tell just what your second paragraph is describing, though it seems like it might be a condition related to the problem in paragraph one.

Does problem 1 happen for multiple accounts from multiple fi's? Does it occur no matter what group of transactions you are viewing (ie: if you look at transactions for today and transactions for a year ago, do you see the same problem)?

For problems which I can't think of any cause, or fix, I fall back on possible corrupted data, or possible corrupted installation. In your case, perhaps also a display driver problem.

One of the first things to try: see if the problems occur in a New Quicken file. Start with the one account where you are currently seeing the problems.

[You do not have to display a separate tag field in your registers; there is a Register Preference to eliminate the tag field from register displays, putting the tag back in the category field where it used to be when it was a "class".]

Glad that helped.

Calling "classes", "tags", and allowing tags to appear in a field separate from the category field was only introduced in Q2008: there was no way for you carry a preference for displaying tags over from Q2007. I'm guessing Intuit thought it better to default to displaying the new tag field so users would know it existed.

Yes, resolution makes more sense than a driver problem.

My computer is quite old, but not my monitor. I recently bought a 22" LCD monitor, and I really love it. Currently using 1680 x

1050 resolution; it's great. The prices for monitors like mine are very reasonable, in my opinion: I'd get a new monitor even if you can't get a new computer.
