I just got a very cheap copy of H & B 2008. Before I convert from
2007, are there any areas that I should be aware of that were particularly buggy and not fixed by updates? What are the main differences, or any differences, for that matter? I know from version to version there is rarely anything major, but I'd like to be forewarned.
But, there is one very useful new feature for tags that was not available for classes - it could have been made available for classes, but wasn't.
Q2008 has a feature called "re-tag" (would have been "re-class", if implemented in previous versions). This capability allows you to modify the tag for multiple transactions, without regard to their category. In earlier versions, if you wanted to modify the tag for multiple transactions you would have to include the category in the modifcation, meaning you could only mass change tags that were applied to the same category. The vehicle for that change was - and still is - Find/Replace.
Re-tagging is done via the Banking > Transaction report.
You can "select" multiple transactions in the Banking > Transaction report (as you would select multiple files in Windows Explorer). Once the desired transactions have been selected, you can click the "Edit" button (in the report), and choose "Retag transactions".
The selected transactions could have different categories and different tags when the report was first run, but all can be given the same tag using this process.
I meant to add that the Banking > Transaction report has become a much more valuable tool over the years.
For example: using that same technique of selecting transactions in the report, and clicking the Edit button, you can delete multiple transactions ... across account boundaries ... including transactions in investment accounts. To the best of my knowledge, there is no other way to delete multiple investment account transactions at one time.
[But the Edit button capabilities seem to limited to deleting transactions when investment accounts are involved.]
