Issues with Windows 7 and Quicken 2008

Has anyone else been trying out the Windows 7 RC and been experiencing issues when downloading files from an online banking account into Quicken?

Most of the time this works splendidly but every so often Quicken just hangs on the screen "Contact Host. ...". If I kill the qw.exe process, delete and re-add quicken to the firewall exclusions and reboot then that will usually kick it in the butt.

Just wondering if there is a known issue here or what?

Thanks in advance

Hi, x97mdr.

I ran Win7 Ultimate x64 RC from the day it was released until I installed the RTM version a couple of weeks ago, after running earlier beta versions since October. I've been running Quicken 2009 Deluxe since last Summer, Q2008 for a year before that. I've been downloading data from several banks throughout this time. My only malware protection is what is built into Win7, including the Windows Firewall; there are no exclusions or other settings for Quicken in the firewall. I've had no such problems.

That doesn't help with your problem, of course, but you might need to look somewhere besides Quicken and Win7. Could there be a problem with your ISP or your modem hardware?

There have been several, including myself who have reported hangs while trying to contact the Internet for quotes and banking downloads. They were not related to Windows 7. I run on Windows XP, and I've seen the problem for several months. Killing the process and restarting the application sometimes makes it work. Sometimes it takes several restarts of Quicken.

I have tried several things as time permitted. I uninstalled the program, ran QCleanUI, and removed all Quicken directories and files in all folders on the machine. I then reinstalled, and saw a failure soon afterward. I also tried leaving the application running for several days, when it had worked once. In that case, it never failed. I could perform downloads as many times as I wanted, without a failure. But after terminating it, and then running it again for a few times, and it failed again.

It is an annoyance, but with a work around.

I have various problems with it hanging during downloads. The only way I can get it to run is to restart computer. I have noticed that after I shut down Q and then look at task manager some of Qs programs are still running. I hope Q10 slves the problem.

If you kill the qw.exe process in task manager, you may not have to shutdown the computer.

Sometimes that works but sometimes it doesn't. I am going to do some testing to see if there is a pattern to when that works and when it does not. That "may" work if I kill the Q program and open a different application such as Word or whatever, then reopen Q it will work but I need to verify that.

Hi, Jim.

Good point! I've had to do that sometimes, although I can't recall what might have triggered it. I'm running 64-bit Vista/Win7 and, as I recall, it was always showing the *32 version of the qw.exe process. I don't know if it ever happens in 32-bit Windows.
