Quicken 2008 flickering

Has anyone found the solution to the flickering problem with Quicken 2008.

It may not be your problem, but I noticed that if I run MusicMatch, then I get a flicker in Quicken. MusicMatch loads a process named "mim". Killing that process helps a lot of performance issues, including a flicker in Quicken, and hiccups in streaming video across my network.

MusicMatch is preloaded on many computers, and by default "mim" gets loaded at boot time. This happens even if you don't use the program. Removing it from startup does not prevent using MusicMatch. It gets loaded along with the program when you start it up.

Use ctl-alt-delete to load the task manager, and see if "mim" is running. You can kill it from there.

Hope this helps.

I had the flickering in my XP Pro 32 bit install, I installed Vista 64 bit Ultimate, and running Quicken 2008 in it now, I do not have the flickering.

Not sure why the difference, but there is for me.

Some have good luck changing the mouse drivers. If you're running MSFT's Intellipoint software try downgrading it to version 5.0, that fixes it for some people.

I was using the latest nvidia drivers on my 8800gt graphics card, and the flicker was unbearable. I rolled back the drivers to the ones delivered on the CD with the card (ver 167.26), and it reduced the problem by at least

90%...a huge noticeable difference.

I run Windows 2000, and I do not see flickering with Q2008.

I've seen nothing but horror stories on the Quicken boards regarding screen flickering - going back to version 2007, and maybe earlier. I just had an opportunity to take 2008 Deluxe for a test spin and found the same problem. My screen flickers and redraws so often this application is totally unusable - unless experiencing epilectic seizures is your idea of a good time.

Suggested fixes there included and entire gamut of possibilities, including changing PDF driver settings, changing fonts, lowering screen resolutions & video driver acceleration, removing USB devices, and uninstalling MS Intellipoint.

From all the different "solutions" posted there, two things seem to be clear; .. that Intuit has absolutely no idea what's causing this problem, and that they have no intention of fixing it. none. zero.

I run dozens of applications on XP-SP2 & Vista systems here and NONE of them seem to have this problem. CLEARLY this is an issue with Quicken, even though it is more expedient and fashionable these days to place blame elsewhere. (I especially liked the post there that contained a reply from Intuit claiming that this was "not a known issue" - why then the dozens of pages in their forums stating otherwise??) Besides, why should I have to reconfigure my hardware just to accomodate one ill-behaved (poorly written) application?

it looks as though once Quicken development moved offshore, all semblance of customer support and quality control went with it...

that, and all the crappy unsafe and inferior quality imports from China, big American business is just screwing us all as fast as they can.

I totally agree with your entire statement.

Or moving to an earlier version of Intellipoint, 5.0 works fine and fixed it for me.

I have to disagree, they would fix it if they could, it's obvious that they can't but the individual users CAN fix it, you need to try each of the above fixes, one at a time, and see which works on your machine.

I have tried each one of the suggested fixes with no joy.

It is strange that none of my other programs exhibit the problems that Quicken does.

You would think if you have a Video problem that PhotoShop would be the one affected.

I presume that means you'll be taking your uninformed comments to some other product forum.

I noticed you failed to rebut whatever I said that you considered to be uninformed.

in that case I'll just chalk up YOUR comments as those of a typical fanboy.

don't like it don't read it. fair enough, self-appointed netcop asswipe?

You would think so. I have a sneaking suspicion that I may know what the problem is.... I recently changed my motherboard and the current board uses an ATI chipset and an ATI video card. Quicken doesn't flicker at all no matter what I do.

For many years I've fought nVidea problems, drivers, updates, etc. etc.

I'm just wondering if maybe the entire problem is an nVidea problem? How many have the flicker and what chipset/graphics card have you? Might be interesting to know...

That's a very odd statement. You really believe that a company is satisfied with problems of this nature? I don't think so...

Because it isn't fixed.

No, they didn't. Not the current bunch of programmers.

The only reason I tolerate it is because it does NOT FLICKER! None, not any. It did, I tried the older intellepoint driver, it fixed it.

Then I updated to Vista Ultimate 64 bit and a non-nVidea chipset and graphics card and never had a flicker.

My experience is nearly identical. My office system (XP and nVidia) stopped flickering when ver. 6.2 Intellipoint was replaced with ver. 5.0 Intellipoint. My new home system (Vista and ATI) never had the problem; it uses ver. 6.2 Intellipoint. My new home system, however, will scroll only in one direction regardless of the scroll wheel direction. This was fixed with Flywheel ver. 3.35.
